With far less infrastructure, the islands see fewer visitors than Bali, offering visitors a more rugged adventure in Indonesia. They’re still plenty popular, though, with more guesthouses, bars, restaurants, and tour providers popping up daily. All You Need to Know About Nusa Ceningan Island Nusa Ceningan is the Smallest of the Nusa Islands Out of the three Nusa islands, Nusa Ceningan is the smallest and located right between Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. It’s super easy to get to from either island, so there is no excuse for not making your way over. Even if you only have a few hours, it’s worth a half-day trip. Renting a motorbike is the best option for getting around the Nusa Islands. The general price for a motorbike on the Nusa islands is 70,000 IDR-85,000. You may be able to get it lower depending on the season and how good your bartering skills are. Yes, these prices are about double the prices on Bali, but with a less developed island and high demand, good luck getting it cheaper. Best Things to do on Nusa Ceningan Check Out the Blue Lagoon The blue lagoon is the most popular thing to see on Nusa Ceningan. Once you arrive on the island, just turn right from the bridge and follow the road. After about five minutes, you’ll find a parking area on your left-hand side, and a handful of other people and motorbikes will be stopped. It’s hard to miss, but if you think you will pass it, just drop a point on Google maps. Prepare yourself for the lightest blue water you have ever seen. It’s possible to walk around the blue lagoon and see it from different angles, although the rocks can be sharp and painful if you are barefoot. It’s also possible to cliff jump, although this should only be reserved for competent swimmers as the water can get very rough and exiting will prove tough. It’s pretty easy to go snap-happy here. Before you do, make sure you take a few minutes to soak in the water and beauty without the camera. We’ve got a healthy Instagram following, but we were shocked by the amount of time those around us spent taking photos of the lagoon. Relax guys! Mahana Point Just down the road from the Blue Lagoon is Mahana Point. It is a much safer cliff jump with a few access points if you’re looking for thrills. Please note that they charge 50,000 IDR a jump which is a bit of a rip-off, so we gave it a skip. Also, plan to jump during high tide! There is also a nice but small beach for lounging. Surfers will enjoy the break in this area. The break is easy to access via the point, so if you want to learn, this may be a good place to rent a board and jump in! Of course, the swell size is dependent on the season. Secret Beach Checking out “Secret Beach” is another popular thing to do. However, I didn’t find it so secret as many other people were there. The beach is accessible via a small hotel and restaurant, and they will request you either buy something there or pay to use their pool and access the beach. Honestly, the beach didn’t seem special to us, and if you arrive after 1 pm, it won’t be in the sun anymore, so we decided to skip it. Unfortunately, I found it so not special I didn’t even take a photo to put in this blog post. Cengingan Cliff Point After hitting all the best things to do on Nusa Ceningan in a few hours, we were eager for more things to explore. I mean, there had to be more things to do, right? So we hopped on the motorbike and hooked a left after exiting the bridge instead of a right. We kept driving down the road and up a fairly steep road. This led to the Ceningan cliff point hotel and restaurant and an amazing lookout over Nusa Penida. It’s clear the owners here built their own makeshift cliff walk with a heart as a draw for social media. If you do decide to head here and access their cliff walk, we would advise you have a drink or some food. We went with two iced coffees for 15,000 IDR each, a fair price to pay to sit and have a great view! You can stay on Nusa Ceningan It’s possible to stay on Nusa Ceningan. There aren’t any major Nusa Ceningan hotels; however, there are a few different accommodation options. We saw many buildings going up all over the island so expect more options in the future. Some good ocean view spots are The Bridge Huts and Svaha Private Villas Ceningan. The other option is to stay on Nusa Lembongan and head over the yellow bridge whenever possible! There are more accommodation and food options on Lembongan, along with better infrastructure. We personally booked in advance on Airbnb, but it’s possible to show up and find a place to stay. However, we wouldn’t recommend that in the high season. Places To Stay On Nusa Lembongan Batu Karong One of the best places to stay on the island, but also one of the most expensive. These are the luxurious places to stay on Nusa Niti Hut’s A great mid-range option that offers a beautiful garden with a pool and free Taman Cottages Good for couples or solo travelers on a budget. The rooms here are comfortable yet affordable and offer sea Hostel Hostel vibe and hostel prices. There Aren’t Many Things to do on Nusa Ceningan As mentioned, the island is very small, and there are not many things to do on Nusa Ceningan. I think a full day over here is plenty of time to check off all the fun activities and still have some time to relax in the sun at one of the beach bars. Nusa Ceningan is the Perfect Spot to Lounge in the Sun Once you enter Nusa Ceningan and start riding around, you’ll notice the shoreline is a mecca for beach bars, swing sets, hammocks, and cafes. It’s a great place for chilling out in the sun, wading in the warm shallow water, and drinking a cocktail while looking at Nusa Lembongan. We found the perfect place to chill at Sea Breeze. They served delicious drinks, had plenty of lounges, a pool, took credit cards, and decent food don’t get the chips and guac, though – you will 100% be disappointed. If we had to guess, all the bars are about the same, so take your pick. Nusa Cengingan is an Instagrammers Heaven Another thing you will notice about these beach bars is how well set up they are for taking Instagrammable photos. Like the rest of the Nusas and Bali, business owners have capitalized on people’s want to share on social media. Along the water, there are swing sets, hammocks, and a few beach nets with fun and beachy signs. The Nusas are generally pretty Instagrammable, but these spots take it to the next level. Bring Cash to Nusa Ceningan No ATMs exist on Nusa Ceningan, so come prepared with some cash. We came to the Nusa Islands with enough cash on hand from Bali because we heard the ATMs on Nusa Lembongan regularly malfunction. However, if you find yourself out, there are two semi-reliable spots on Nusa Lembongan to pick up some cash. How to Get to Nusa Ceningan There is no direct ferry to Nusa Ceningan. To get to this island, you must first get to Nusa Lembongan. Once on Nusa Lembongan, Ceningan is only a few kilometers away. The way to get there without getting wet is via the yellow bridge. The yellow bridge is a short distance; you can walk or drive a motorbike across. Head caution to the weight on the bridge as it collapsed and killed people before. It’s probably safe now, though. Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan are very close, so your other option is to swim between the two! The water is generally very calm and isn’t deep, so if you want to get a little activity, then it’s an option. I suppose you could also hire a local boat, but I never saw this and don’t know why you would bother. If you’re coming from Nusa Penida, you can take a local boat for 50,000 IDR to Nusa Lembongan. You will be dropped off right next to the yellow bridge. Plan and Pack for Nusa Ceningan Shop For Travel Insurance We don’t travel without travel insurance, and neither should you. You never know what can happen in a foreign country, and it’s best to be prepared. HeyMondo offers excellent short and long-term travel insurance policies. Travel Water Bottle Plastic pollution is a problem in Bali, so it’s best not to contribute by buying plastic water bottles everywhere. Vamos às dicas da Nathália? partiu “As ilhas Nusa Lembongan e Nusa Ceningan inicialmente não estavam no nosso roteiro da Indonésia, entraram pouco tempo antes do embarque e já adianto o quanto nos arrependemos, profundamente, por não ter reservado mais tempo para elas. Nosso estilo de turismo meu e do meu marido é diferente da maioria das pessoas. Gostamos mais de ecoturismo, muita natureza e lugares pouco explorados. Consequentemente, ao planejar uma viagem sempre corremos o risco de seguir a maioria e deixar passar os lugares que poderíamos apreciar mais. Foi exatamente isso que aconteceu com Nusa. Encontrei pouquíssimas informações disponíveis na internet, sabia que seria nossa praia, mas pela internet não tive noção do potencial e das maravilhas que essa ilha poderia nos oferecer. O pequeno arquipélago é composto por três ilhas Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan e Nusa Penida. Reservamos 2 dias e ficamos muito frustrados na despedida, pois faltou muita coisa para conhecer! Principalmente a terceira ilha, Nusa Penida, com suas paisagens incríveis. Fica para a próxima! A primeira dica é se você gosta de ecoturismo, conhecer a cultura preservada em pequenas ilhas, mar azul, explorar cada cantinho de moto e paisagens incríveis, reserve uns 3 ou 4 dias para as três Nusa. Você não vai se arrepender. Como chegar Para a maioria dos turistas, a porta de entrada na Indonésia é Bali, e não a capital Jacarta. Os voos partindo do Brasil para Bali comumente são mais caros que voos para outros países asiáticos e caso tenha tempo e queira economizar, é recomendável passar antes em outro país e depois ir para Bali. No nosso caso, fomos primeiro para a belíssima Tailândia e, de lá, para a Indonésia. Na Indonésia, fizemos uma rota circular para otimizar os dias por lá. Primeiro fomos para Ubud, que é a capital cultural de Bali, na região central. Depois, fomos para as Ilhas Gili, com sua atmosfera roots e mar azul. E das Ilhas Gili é que fomos para a Nusa Lembongan. Para chegar a Nusa Lembongan, a partir de Bali existem duas formas A partir de Sanur e região Essa é a forma mais conhecida, fácil e barata de chegar a Nusa Lembongan. Para isso, é necessário pegar um speed boat em direção a Nusa Lembongan. O trajeto dura cerca de 30 minutos e qualquer agência turística vende passagens. A partir de Gili Trawangan Esse foi o trajeto que fiz, mais demorado, caro e ainda bastante desconhecido, inclusive entre guias de Bali. Contudo, se enquadrava melhor no meu roteiro circular, e no planejamento como um todo proporcionou economia de tempo e dinheiro. Somente duas empresas fazem esse trajeto. Foi um parto conseguir informações e na internet não achei nada consistente! Só descobri o que fazer quando cheguei em Gili Trawangan, após perguntar para muitas pessoas. Comprei o ticket na loja da Scoot Fast Cruises, em Gili T. É possível comprar também pelo site, mas sem aquela barganha esperta que é obrigatória durante cada compra na Indonésia. A Scoot vende passagens um pouco mais caras, mas inclui outros benefícios como viagem completa Gili T – Nusa Lembongan – Transfer hotel – Sanur – Transfer hotel e o transfer até o hotel em que você estiver hospedado. No final, o caro sai barato! A viagem de Gili T. para Nusa Lembongan dura duas horas de emoção quando o mar está agitado, afinal é um trecho não protegido pelo continente ou ilhas, ou seja, mar aberto. O que fazer em Nusa Lembongan e Nusa Ceningan em 2 dias Primeiro dia Snorkel O passeio mais conhecido em Nusa Lembongan é o mergulho com a raia manta ou o peixe mola mola. É possível contratar esse serviço em diversos locais da ilha nos escritórios de turismo, direto com os barqueiros ou nos hotéis. Eu reservei com um barqueiro diretamente, que me ofereceu um roteiro padrão, que não incluía o mergulho com a manta. Conversando, ele topou fazer o roteiro que eu queria, com um pequeno acréscimo no valor. Custo para duas pessoas IDR ou US$ 37,88 ou R$ 122,73. O mergulho ocorre em ambiente natural, portanto, para avistar os animais é importante considerar o comportamento deles. Segundo minha pesquisa para a viagem, a raia manta é avistada mais facilmente no período da manhã nos points usados pelos turistas. Não encontrei relatos de ataque desses animais, então mergulhei sem medo. Mas só até ver a gigante na minha frente. No primeiro encontro tremi tanto que não consegui filmar. Foto Nathália Braga. Nem só de manta se faz o mergulho em Nusa Lembongan. É possível conhecer pontos com belíssimos corais, como a Cristal Bay, Gamat Bay e Mangrove Point. Achei os corais daqui muito mais bonitos, biodiversos, coloridos e preservados que os corais das Ilhas Gili. Além dos atrativos naturais, existe o Underwater Buddha ou Buddha Point, que para mim era uma parada obrigatória. Era… Fui enganada pelas fotos da internet. Na verdade, minhas fotos também ficaram muito bonitas, mas o mergulho em si é bastante fraco e sem sentido. Sem sentido porque as estátuas foram colocadas lá só para entreter os turistas eu acreditava que era um templo ou alguma ruína. Aí fica aquela sensação de que você foi enganado. Faz parte! Foto Nathália Braga Fizemos o passeio de snorkel pela manhã, e, à tarde, aproveitamos as praias próximas ao hotel Coconut Beach e a praia principal da ilha, onde os barcos atracam. Não existem muitos carros, somente carrinhos parecidos com aqueles de golfe, que levam os turistas até os hotéis. É comum estar incluído no deslocamento de barco o transporte até o hotel, pois as opções são escassas na ilha e andar a pé com malas não é uma opção, por conta da quantidade de ladeiras que elas possuem. Em Nusa Lembongan não é necessário ter carteira de motorista internacional para pilotar motos, não por falta de leis, mas por falta de policiamento. Isso inclusive possibilita passeios mais livres. Nós alugamos uma moto no próprio hotel e lá mesmo, na hora, aprendemos a pilotar a moto. Foi fácil e felizmente não houve acidentes conosco, mas vi algumas vezes turistas com pequenas escoriações pela falta de habilidade. O valor do aluguel é bem acessível e está disponível em qualquer esquina. Aluguel de uma moto para o dia todo com tanque cheio, no hotel IDR ou US$ 6,06 $ ou R$ 19,64. O passeio de moto não teve um grande planejamento. Pesquisei antes na internet os lugares mais interessantes para se visitar, anotei os nomes e seguimos usando um simples mapinha dado pelo hotel e o aplicativo do Google Maps no celular. Foi bastante tranquilo o deslocamento dessa forma, Jeann meu marido ficou como piloto e eu, na garupa, fazia a navegação no mapa, aplicativo, filmava e fotografava. Acredito que foi melhor dividir a moto, pois caso cada um estivesse em uma moto não teria navegador, fotógrafo e etc… e ficaria bem mais difícil o deslocamento. O problema foi ter que descer da garupa em algumas subidas, pois a moto é de baixa potência e não dava conta nas maiores subidas. Andando de moto por Nusa Lembongan. Foto Nathália Braga. Saímos do hotel, que fica próximo à Coconut Beach, e seguimos para a Mushroom Beach, que é uma praia de águas azuis bem tranquila e possui alguns hotéis. De lá, fomos para a Dream Beach, que é uma praia incrível. Como chegamos no período de subida de maré, encontramos uma praia muito forte, intensa, com ondas gigantes, impossibilitando o banho naquele momento. Infelizmente a fotografia só possibilita uma noção da realidade, mas se reparar no tamanho das ondas em comparação com o tamanho das pessoas poderá entender melhor o que estou tentando explicar. A partir da Dream Beach, seguindo à direita de quem olha para o mar, está a Devil’s Tears, onde é possível ir a pé, com uma caminhada de aproximadamente cinco minutos. Esse é um pedacinho do continente que está em contato com o mar aberto. Quando as ondas batem no paredão rochoso com muita pressão, são gerados esguichos de água para todos os lados. A próxima parada foi a Yellow Bridge, a ponte que liga Nusa Lembongan a Nusa Ceningan. Esse era mais um atrativo turístico, mas para nós o que mais nos marcou nesse passeio nas ilhas foi poder presenciar tão de perto o dia a dia de quem mora lá. Isso fez desse lugar o mais encantador de toda viagem. Para nós, mais bonito que ver as praias incríveis, foi acompanhar a ida das famílias ao templo em um sábado de manhã, às vezes todos juntos na mesma moto sempre com um fundo de mar azul. Mais bonito que as praias incríveis foi quando nos permitimos nos perder entre as ruelas e coqueirais e nos encantamos ainda mais com a vida real. Para nos achar fora da zona turística, onde não se fala inglês, bastou parar e conversar usando uma língua de sinais inventada e logo encontramos nosso rumo, muito carinho e simpatia de um povo maravilhoso! Como é que alguém viaja com outro objetivo se não apreciar a diversidade de vida, de culturas, de modos de viver e de interação com essa nossa casa que é uma casa só, um planeta só? Da mesma forma que a falta de policiamento possibilitou nosso passeio de moto, ela também possibilita a crueldade das brigas de galo ao ar livre, que apesar de ilegais, ainda existem. Essa forma de turismo mais livre também possibilita conhecer tradições não tão simpáticas, que quando olhado sob uma perspectiva de outra cultura a gente cai em tentação e julga, mas só internamente, em silêncio. Após a Yellow Bridge, chegamos em Nusa Ceningan. Nessa ilha, o primeiro ponto de parada foi a Blue Lagoon, que encanta pela beleza, azul intenso e formações que envolvem a lagoa. Para chegar, rodamos bastante, nos perdemos algumas vezes, mas por fim encontramos, meio sem querer. A praia fica atrás de um hotel, é um daqueles lugares que você acredita que está no lugar errado. Em frente à praia tem um restaurante e uma piscina. A piscina pode ser utilizada pelos hospedes do hotel ou pelos clientes do restaurante, desde que atinja um consumo mínimo ir até a praia 75 mil rúpias ou usar a piscina 100 mil rúpias. Restaurante, praia e piscina em Secret Beach. Foto Nathália Braga. A praia é belíssima, de água cristalina, mas o mar estava bravo no horário que estivemos lá e ninguém se arriscou a tomar um banho. Já era hora de ir embora para pegar o barco rumo a Bali e, saindo da Secret Beach, já em Nusa Lembongan, o Google Maps nos levou aos lugares mais estranhos, através de trilhas subindo morros no meio da mata onde era impossível ir de moto. Nos arranhamos no matagal, ficamos com muito medo, principalmente de não chegar a tempo de pegar o único barco do dia! …nessa aventura conhecemos por acaso a Tamarind Bay e todas as florestas da região. Depois de muita aflição, conseguimos chegar no hotel faltando poucos minutos para pegar o barco. Pulamos na piscina para um último mergulho e seguimos rumo a Bali ainda com a roupa de banho.
